Help Build the Artsvabert Kindergarten
Description
More than 2,700 people live in the isolated border community of Artsvabert. Â The middle school in the village houses 125 children with classes through the 8th grade and is one of two schools in this growing town.
The Artsvabert School, built in 1937, is now unsafe and needs to be completely rebuilt. Â No indoor plumbing, nor running water exists at the school. Â Inefficient and unsafe heaters heat the school in the winter. Â The wood floor structure for the second floor is rotted and is at risk to collapse creating a dangerous environment for the children.
The reconstruction of the school will include the complete demolition of the floors and ceilings, leaving only the solid stone structure. Â Following the complete reconstruction of the school, new furniture and kitchen equipment will be installed.
The Need
A lack of basic sanitation, proper heating and an unsafe structure creates an urgent need to rebuild this school. The town’s growing population confirms the need for the town’s second school.
Short Term Impact
In the short term, the students will be moved to attend classes at the other school in the village. Overcrowding will force the school to operate on a split day schedule to accommodate all of the students. Local materials and labor will create a boost to the local economy as construction will last for approximately eight months (weather permitting.)
Long Term Impact
In the long term, students in the town of Artsvabert will benefit from their primary education taking place in a clean, safe and comfortable environment. This will also contribute to students taking pride in their school and their village.
Sponsors Benefits
All sponsors of this important project will be listed on The Paros Foundation’s website, on a plaque installed at the school, and in all appropriate press. Visits to the Artsvabert Primary School can be arranged for sponsors during their visit to Armenia.
